Serving Our Community, One Older Adult at a Time
From front doors to community cafés, Meals on Wheels for Northern Illinois delivers nourishment, connection, and care.
Become a Volunteer Driver
Our volunteer drivers are the literal lifeline of our organization. When you deliver a meal, you deliver much more: a friendly greeting, a brief moment of human connection, and a crucial wellness check.
WBEZ listeners are known for their reliability and empathy. We need individuals who can commit a small amount of time—just two hours a week—to pick up meals and deliver them along a pre-planned route from a delivery hub near you.
Support for Caregivers: We’re Here for Your Family, Too
Many people are actively engaged in complex family care, seeking reliable support systems.
We know that many in the WBEZ audience are themselves caregivers for aging parents, family members, or friends. This is often a rewarding but demanding role.
Meals on Wheels is a trusted partner for caregivers. By connecting your loved one to our program, you ensure they receive:
- Reliable, Nutritious Meals: Takes the stress of daily meal preparation off your plate.
- Community Connection: Located across suburban Cook, Will, Kendall, and Grundy counties, our Community Cafés serve as sites for older adult health and community connection.
- Wellness Checks: Our drivers provide "eyes and ears" on your loved one when you can't be there, giving you peace of mind.

Supporting Older Adults, Strengthening Communities
We believe that Meals on Wheels of Northern Illinois (MOWFNI) and the dedicated public radio community share a fundamental commitment: to strengthen and enrich the lives of our neighbors.
Just as WBEZ delivers essential news, compelling stories, and cultural enrichment, MOWFNI delivers an equally essential service: nutritious meals, community connection, and wellness checks to our older adult and disabled neighbors.
Suggested donations are appreciated; all are welcome regardless of ability to contribute.
Become a Donor
Your support ensures that older adults and individuals with disabilities receive the nutritious meals they need to stay healthy and independent. Every gift helps us grow and sustain our programs across Cook, Kendall, Grundy, and Will Counties. Together, we can make sure that no older adult goes hungry.
Become a Social Media Advocate
As a public radio listener, you understand the power of a shared story. On social media, you can help us tell the story of hunger, isolation, and independence in Illinois.
Follow MOWFNI on social media and share our posts about volunteer opportunities, client stories, and the impact of our meals. A simple share can reach hundreds of new potential volunteers and clients in need of meals.
