Pets are the closest companions many homebound seniors have. They rely on them for love, affection and a sense of purpose each day.
With your help, we’re making sure our seniors’ four-legged friends have what they need to thrive so our older neighbors can thrive, too!
This winter we partnered with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department and Rescue Pack Chicago to hold pet food pantries in Brookfield and Hometown for the second year in a row.
And now, supporters like you are helping provide pet food along with meal deliveries for our seniors. Our amazing volunteers are gathering information on their visits so Meals on Wheels can assist with pet food needs.
“Since COVID hit, we are not only helping distribute meals for senior citizens, but we’re also helping get dog food to people,” Sheriff Tom Dart says. “At some of the houses we went to, we found that the dogs were not getting fed, and the seniors in particular were often not feeding themselves in order to feed their dogs.”
No senior should ever have to miss a meal!
Thank you for making sure your older neighbors in Northern Illinois can enjoy hot, nutritious meals and warm companionship — from our volunteers and from their beloved pets.
And special thanks to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and Rescue Pack Chicago for partnering with us to make our pet food pantries happen. When we come together as a community, anything is possible!
